How do I change tooth speed or translation ratio?

The answer

Both live under Advanced Tools in Smile Studio. Right click the tooth you want, then click Set Aligner Speed.

Tooth speed

Enter the amount you want in millimeters. The default is 0.25 mm per sequence. Changing it adjusts the velocity of movement per sequence, and may change the total number of sequences.

Open Advanced Options to set the speed for a specific movement rather than overall. This lets you slow down or speed up translation or rotation independently. For example, where a tooth has a combined translation and rotation movement, you can slow the extrusion to make it more predictable while keeping the rotation at standard speed.

Translation ratio

The standard ratio of translation to rotation is 1 to 1. Enter a different figure in the translation ratio field to change it.

This helps when one movement type needs to finish before another starts: for example, expanding with a translation movement before beginning a rotation, to open space and avoid a collision between two teeth.

Applying to several teeth

Aligner speed can be set for multiple teeth or an individual tooth.
